A Curly Hair Tarantula Helps Lou-Pascal Tremblay Conquer His Fear
Some animal encounters completely change the way we see a species. That is exactly what happened during a recent segment featuring Joanie Asselin alongside actor Lou-Pascal Tremblay and host Sébastien Kfoury.
This time, Joanie brought along an animal that intimidates many people: a curly hair tarantula. Right from the start, Lou-Pascal openly admitted that he had a real fear of spiders. But as often happens during Educazoo’s educational animal encounters, just a few minutes of discovery and explanation can completely transform fear into fascination.
And after about 10 minutes with Joanie… Lou-Pascal was finally ready to hold the tarantula in his hands!
A Fascinating but Often Misunderstood Spider
Curly hair tarantulas are known for their impressive appearance, with their long legs and distinctive curly hairs. Yet despite their intimidating look, they are generally calm and sensitive animals.
During the segment, Joanie took the time to debunk several myths surrounding tarantulas. She explained their behavior, lifestyle, and the important role they play in ecosystems. As is often the case with spiders, fear mostly comes from a lack of knowledge.
At Educazoo, the mission is to help people discover animals in an educational, safe, and respectful setting in order to better understand the biodiversity around us.
The Moment Everyone Falls For
One of the funniest moments of the segment happened when Sébastien Kfoury showed Lou-Pascal a tarantula exuvia. An exuvia is the exoskeleton left behind when a tarantula molts in order to grow. It looks so realistic that it almost appears to be a real spider. Caught up in the emotion of the moment, Lou-Pascal was convinced it was another tarantula!
The reaction caused lots of laughter on set. And honestly… almost everyone gets fooled the first time they see a tarantula exuvia.
This funny moment also gave viewers the opportunity to learn more about the fascinating growth process of arthropods.
Overcoming Fear Through Discovery
The most memorable moment of the segment was when Lou-Pascal finally decided to hold the tarantula. You could clearly see the evolution of his emotions: the nervousness at the beginning slowly turned into curiosity, and eventually into amazement.
Congratulations to Lou-Pascal for stepping outside his comfort zone! At Educazoo, this type of moment perfectly represents the heart of our mission. When we bring people closer to wildlife and give them the opportunity to interact with animals in a safe and educational environment, powerful connections are created.
And the more we understand the species around us, the easier it becomes to coexist with them. Sometimes, all it takes is one encounter to transform fear… into respect and fascination.
